Essential Ingredients For Warm and Inviting Living Spaces
I am not a minimalist by any stretch of the imagination. You will always find “signs of life” as I like to call them, in every room of our home. Don’t get me wrong, I love a clean house, but I love to look around the room and let me eyes settle on things collected over time. Not necessarily things of value to anyone else but just to our family. A vase that belonged to my grandmother, ginger jars bought on my travels, framed prints, brass sculptures, things which tell the story of who we are. I’m also not opposed to the odd school book lying around or a jumper slung over the back of a chair depending on my mood that day.
I used to pack everything away diligently when there were just 2 or 3 of us, but they’ve been six of us for a long time now and I’ve relaxed into liking just a bit of clutter. Loose change in a bowl, piles of magazines on the coffee table, hats and backpacks hung on hooks in hallways, stacks of books in “to read” piles by beds and candles pretty much everywhere. The overall effect is “lived in” and we like it that way.
When searching for products for our beautiful stores, I find myself drawn to things which I would love to have in my own home. A warm and comfortable feeling is everything to me and I believe that is best created by interspersing things which you love and are meaningful to you, with other items which just happen to catch your eye along the way.
We have some beautiful styling ingredients at Zjoosh to blend in with your sentimental objects. Pretty blue and white ceramics work with any interior style and ceramic dishes placed here and there make perfect resting places for shells collected on holidays, matches. keys or coins.
Everything is more beautiful by candlelight, so why not add some of our cut glass hurricane lamps to your sideboard or entry table. The warm glow of a flickering candle will make a night on the sofa watching Netflix feel as though you are on a romantic vacation.
I’ve said it before that new cushions are like new clothes for your sofa, and for me it’s the more the merrier! Soft velvets in a range of colours from deep amber and ink navy to powder blues and blush pinks make for the comfiest seats in the house. What could be more inviting than a sofa with layers of sumptuous soft velvet cushions ready to fall into.
Take a peek online and in our stores for inspiration as to how to make your living spaces warm and inviting. We are always happy to offer suggestions for styling rooms you will love spending time in for many years to come.
