For the Love of Linen
Linen is my favourite of all fabrics. Stronger and more durable than all the others. Created from the inner fibres of the flax plant, linen has been used by people for more than 10,000 years.
Unlike many other things in life, linen improves with age. It becomes softer and can withstand poor treatment. I always marvel that our Zjoosh table linens can be restored to the cleanest of crisp whites after a red wine spillage. This means that linen clothing will last for many seasons to come, making it a perfect addition to any conscious, capsule wardrobe.
Flax is a resilient plant species which can grow in poor soils with little if any fertiliser also requiring less water than other plants. It is repellent to many insects meaning a reduced need for chemical treatment. The flax seeds and the oils derived from them are used increasingly in the health food industry, so there is little to no wastage from the plants. Being a natural fibre, it is also biodegradable. These things together with it’s durability means linen is an environmentally beneficial alternative to other fabric.
As linen fibres are hollow, they allow more airflow over your body than other fabrics. They are also highly absorbent, gaining up to 20% of their dry weight in moisture without feeling damp to touch. This makes linen perfect for sunny spells and warm getaways, helping you to keep cool.
We love linen so much that our newest dress arrivals are crafted from our beautiful 100% pure French linen. Our styles are elegant and fuss free staple pieces for Spring / Summer. X Kell.
