How to Care — Cotton

Care For Your
Cotton

For your 100% cotton garments, we recommend a cold gentle machine wash to help maintain their shape and softness. Line dry in the shade and use a warm iron if needed. Cotton loves a bit of fresh air.

Step by Step

Washing Your Cotton

1
Sort by colour

Always wash darks, whites, and colours separately. New dark cotton can transfer dye — wash alone for the first few cycles.

2
Turn inside out

Turning garments inside out reduces surface friction and helps preserve the colour, print, and any surface detail.

3
Cold gentle wash

Select cold or warm water (30°C) on a gentle or delicate cycle. High temperatures cause shrinkage and weaken the fibre over time.

4
Use a mild detergent

Choose a gentle liquid detergent. Avoid fabric softeners on structured cotton — they can reduce the fabric's natural breathability.

5
Remove promptly & reshape

Remove garments as soon as the cycle finishes. Reshape while still damp and line dry in the shade, or tumble dry on low heat.

Quick Guide

Do’s & Don’ts

Washing Wash in cool to warm water (30°C) to minimise shrinkage and maintain the garment's shape.
Drying Line dry in the shade or tumble dry on a low setting to protect the fibre's integrity.
Ironing Iron on a medium heat while slightly damp for a clean, crisp finish.
Storage Fold cotton knitwear flat. Hanging for long periods can cause stretching at the shoulders.
Hot water Avoid washing above 40°C — hot water is the primary cause of cotton shrinkage.
Bleach Never use chlorine bleach on coloured cotton. It strips dye and weakens the fabric significantly.
High heat drying Tumble drying on a high heat is the fastest way to shrink cotton. Always use a low setting.
Over-washing Washing too frequently breaks down fibres. Spot clean where possible and air between wears.

A Note on Longevity

Cotton softens beautifully with every wash. Care for it well and it becomes a piece you’ll reach for again and again — washing less, airing more, and repairing before replacing are the simplest ways to make it last.
