How to Care — Homeware

Care For Your
Glassware

Good glassware deserves to be used and looked after in equal measure. Whether it’s an etched vase or a set of hand-blown tumblers, a little care keeps it clear, brilliant and chip-free for years.

Step by Step

Caring for Your Glassware

1
Hand wash where possible

Hand washing is always the safest option for quality glassware, particularly etched, hand-blown or decorative pieces. Use warm water and a small amount of mild dish soap. A soft bottle brush is useful for reaching inside vases and tumblers.

2
Rinse thoroughly

Rinse with clean warm water to remove all soap residue. Leftover detergent leaves a film that dulls the clarity of the glass over time.

3
Dry with a lint-free cloth

Use a clean, lint-free cloth to dry glassware immediately after washing. Air drying can leave water spots, particularly in areas with hard water. Polish gently in circular motions for a streak-free finish.

4
Store safely

Store glassware upright on a stable, flat surface. Avoid stacking pieces inside one another unless they are specifically designed for it — this is a common cause of chips and cracks. Keep in a cupboard away from high-traffic areas where knocks are likely.

Quick Guide

Do’s & Don’ts

Washing Hand wash with warm water and mild soap for the clearest, most streak-free result.
Drying Dry immediately with a lint-free cloth to prevent water spots and maintain clarity.
Storage Store upright on a stable surface, well spaced so pieces don’t knock against each other.
Handling Hold stemware by the bowl rather than the stem when washing to reduce the risk of breakage.
Dishwasher Avoid the dishwasher for etched, hand-blown or decorative pieces — heat and detergents cloud and damage the surface over time.
Extreme temperatures Never pour boiling water into cold glass or move glassware from freezer to hot water — thermal shock causes cracking.
Stacking Avoid stacking glassware unless designed for it — the pressure causes chips along the rim that are hard to see until they cut.
Abrasive cloths Never use abrasive sponges or scourers — these scratch the surface and permanently dull the glass.

A Note on Longevity

Good glassware is meant to be used, not kept. The pieces that get brought out regularly, washed with care and put away properly are the ones that last a lifetime — and the ones that make every table setting feel considered.
