How to Care — Leather

Care For Your
Leather

Our leather pieces are crafted from full-grain hides selected for their natural character and durability. Spot clean gently, condition regularly, and store with care — properly maintained leather develops a rich patina over time that makes each piece uniquely your own.

Step by Step

Cleaning Your Leather

1
Check the care label first

Always refer to the individual garment label before treating. Different leather finishes — smooth, suede, nubuck, or waxed — each require specific products and methods. Using the wrong treatment on the wrong finish can cause permanent damage.

2
Wipe away surface dirt

For everyday upkeep, wipe the surface gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and light marks. For more stubborn surface dirt, use a cloth barely dampened with clean water — never saturate the leather — and allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.

3
Treat stains promptly

Act on spills and stains as quickly as possible. Blot — never rub — with a clean, absorbent cloth to lift the stain before it sets. For persistent marks, use a leather-specific cleaner suited to your finish and always test on an inconspicuous area first.

4
Condition every 3–6 months

Leather needs moisture to stay supple and resist cracking. Apply a small amount of quality leather conditioner with a soft cloth using circular motions, then buff gently with a clean cloth. Conditioning is especially important after the leather has been exposed to rain or prolonged dry conditions.

5
Store correctly between wears

Hang leather garments on broad, padded hangers to maintain their shape. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space — never in a sealed plastic bag, which traps moisture and encourages mildew. If storing long-term, slip a breathable cotton dust bag over the garment for protection.

Quick Guide

Do’s & Don’ts

Cleaning Wipe down regularly with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a barely damp cloth and allow to air dry naturally at room temperature away from any heat source.
Conditioning Condition with a specialist leather cream or balm every 3–6 months. This keeps the hide supple, prevents cracking, and deepens the natural finish over time.
Drying If leather gets wet, pat dry immediately with a soft cloth and allow to dry slowly at room temperature. Once dry, condition to restore suppleness lost during drying.
Storage Hang on a padded hanger in a cool, ventilated space. Use a breathable dust bag for long-term storage and stuff sleeves or body lightly to help the piece hold its shape.
Water immersion Never submerge leather in water or machine wash it. Saturating the hide strips the natural oils, causing the leather to stiffen, warp, and crack as it dries.
Heat & direct sunlight Keep leather away from radiators, tumble dryers, and prolonged direct sunlight. Heat causes the hide to dry out and crack; sunlight fades colour and dries the surface.
Harsh chemicals Avoid bleach, acetone, alcohol-based products, or any cleaner not designed specifically for leather. These strip the finish and permanently damage the surface of the hide.
Plastic storage Never store leather in sealed plastic bags or airtight containers. Leather is a natural material that needs to breathe — trapping moisture encourages mildew and deterioration.

A Note on Patina

Fine leather is not meant to stay pristine — it is meant to age. Small marks, a deepening tone, a softening of the surface: these are not flaws but the signature of a well-lived piece. Care for it, and your leather will tell your story beautifully.
