How to Care — Linen

Care For Your
Linen

Our linen is woven from long-staple flax fibres — naturally strong, breathable, and remarkably easy to live in. Machine wash on a cool gentle cycle, iron while damp, and your linen will only grow more beautifully relaxed with every wear and wash.

Step by Step

Washing Your Linen

1
Check the care label first

Always refer to the individual garment label before washing. Most of our linen pieces are safe to machine wash, but some styles with special finishes, embroidery, or trims may require hand washing or dry cleaning.

2
Machine wash on a gentle cycle

Wash at 30°C on a gentle or delicate cycle with a mild detergent. Turn garments inside out to protect the surface and minimise friction. Avoid washing linen with heavy items like denim that could cause unnecessary abrasion.

3
Remove promptly after washing

Take linen out of the machine as soon as the cycle ends. Leaving it sitting damp encourages deep creasing that can be difficult to remove. Give the garment a firm shake to open the fibres and release any fold lines before drying.

4
Hang to dry or tumble dry low

Hang linen on a hanger or a line to air dry — this is the preferred method and helps the fabric retain its natural structure. If using a tumble dryer, use the lowest heat setting and remove while still slightly damp to avoid over-drying and stiffness.

5
Iron while damp for a crisp finish

Linen irons beautifully while still slightly damp. Use a medium-to-high heat setting with steam and press on the reverse side for a smooth finish. For a relaxed look, simply smooth with your hands and hang — linen's natural texture is part of its character.

Quick Guide

Do’s & Don’ts

Washing Machine wash on a cool gentle cycle at 30°C. Linen is one of the most hardwearing natural fibres and actually strengthens slightly when wet.
Drying Hang to dry wherever possible. If tumble drying, use a low heat and remove while just damp to prevent the fabric from becoming overly stiff or brittle.
Ironing Iron on a medium-high setting with steam while the fabric is still slightly damp. This is when linen releases creases most easily and achieves its best finish.
Storage Store linen loosely folded or hung in a cool, well-ventilated space. Linen breathes naturally and benefits from good airflow between wears.
Hot water Avoid washing above 40°C. Higher temperatures can cause linen to shrink significantly and weaken the fibres over time, shortening the life of the garment.
Over-drying Never over-dry linen in the tumble dryer. Removing all moisture makes the fabric brittle and prone to cracking along fold lines with repeated wear.
Bleach Do not use chlorine bleach on linen. It degrades the flax fibres and causes yellowing, particularly on undyed or naturally finished pieces.
Leaving damp Never leave linen sitting damp for extended periods. Remove it promptly from the wash and hang immediately to prevent deep-set creasing and potential mildew.

A Note on Longevity

Linen is one of the few fabrics that genuinely improves with age. Each wash softens the fibres a little more, deepening the texture and relaxed character that makes linen so enduring — wear it often, wash it well, and it will only get better.
