How to Care — Homeware

Care For Your
Velvet Homewares

The velvet lining inside a jewellery box is what makes it feel special. Soft, protective and refined — a little attention keeps it looking just as considered as the pieces it holds.

Step by Step

Caring for Velvet-Lined Jewellery Boxes

1
Brush away dust regularly

Use a soft bristle brush — a clean makeup brush works perfectly — to gently brush the velvet lining in one direction. This lifts dust and debris without flattening the pile. Do this every few weeks to keep the interior fresh.

2
Spot clean with care

For small marks or stains, lightly dampen a soft cloth with cool water and blot gently — never rub. Work from the outside of the mark inward to avoid spreading. Allow to air dry completely before closing the box.

3
Restore flattened pile with steam

If the velvet pile has been flattened from pressure or storage, hold a clothes steamer or the steam from a kettle a few centimetres away from the surface. The steam lifts the fibres back up. Never apply the steamer directly to the velvet.

4
Store in a cool, dry place

Keep your jewellery box closed when not in use to protect the velvet lining from dust and light. Avoid humid environments such as bathrooms, which can cause velvet to develop a musty odour over time.

Quick Guide

Do’s & Don’ts

Cleaning Brush gently with a soft bristle brush in one direction to remove dust and restore the pile.
Stains Blot stains gently with a barely damp cloth — always blot, never rub.
Pile restoration Use gentle steam from a distance to revive flattened velvet pile and restore its softness.
Storage Keep the box closed in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and humidity.
Rubbing Never rub velvet — it crushes the pile and causes permanent marks that are very difficult to reverse.
Chemical sprays Avoid fabric sprays, perfume and cleaning products near velvet — these leave residue and can permanently stain the pile.
Soaking Never submerge or saturate velvet with water — it distorts the pile and can damage the backing permanently.
Direct heat Keep away from direct heat sources and sunlight, which fade velvet colour and dry out the fibres.

A Note on Longevity

A velvet-lined jewellery box is more than storage — it’s the first thing you see when you reach for something you love. Keep the interior brushed and dry, and it will continue to hold your pieces in the quiet, considered way it was designed to.
