I Can Buy My Own Flowers

We all know how the song goes- "I can buy my own flowers...."

and we happen to agree there is absolutely no need to wait for the florist to deliver this Valentine's day!

There have been Valentine’s days when I’ve received the biggest bouquet in the office, and other Valentine’s days when all I’ve received is a parking fine. I’m married to someone who believes that Valentine’s day is commercial silliness, and that the really important day is our anniversary. Being one who likes to celebrate the opening of a paper bag, I say why not jump at the chance to celebrate a day all about love! I’m worth it right?

Having spent many years in America, it was hard not to pick up on the Valentine’s energy that envelopes the entire country. It’s a day not just for couples, but also a day when children exchange handmade cards with classmates celebrating friendship, and so to this day I embrace the day as a day to celebrate love of all kinds.

Heart shaped pizzas are always on the menu in our house, and my daughters and I celebrate what we like to call Galentines Day. A day of self love and care. There will be Champagne and beautiful flowers for us to enjoy, a romantic comedy by the light of our favourite candle burning (Kyoto of course), a manicure and a hydrating facemask.  Valentine’s day need not equal romantic dates, flower deliveries or dinners for two. It can also be a day dedicated to honouring love, family and friendship in all it’s forms.
